This week the 93rd Academy Award nominations were announced and as the BBC put it 'Brits, diversity and female directors awarded'.
These nominations coincided with me attending the Independent Cinema Office virtual screenings sessions this week, which meant I had the opportunity to watch a diverse selection of films, including some of those that have been nominated for Oscars, to help me decide which films to bring to Tenbury.
One that really caught my eye was 'The Father' staring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman. This has been nominated for 6 Academy Awards including; Best Picture; Best Actor; Best Supporting Actress; Best Adapted Screenplay; Best Production Design and Best Film Editing.
It is a powerful and emotional film about a man who refuses all assistance from his daughter as he ages. I found this film moving with its very open and honest portrayal of a difficult situation that many of us may encounter in some form. This is definitely a film not to be missed and I would advise you to bring some tissues!
The Father is hopefully going to be released in the UK in June and I would love to bring it to the Regal.
