Jon Boden & The Remnant Strings

  • Regal Tenbury Trust 49 Teme Street Tenbury Wells, England, WR15 8AE United Kingdom (map)

Jon Boden has become the ‘stand out performer of his generation’ (The Guardian) of traditional folk artists, but one whose repertoire extends far beyond the boundaries of the genre.

He is best known as the lead singer and main arranger of the progressive folk juggernaut Bellowhead. After twelve years, a quarter of a million album sales, seven singles on the Radio 2 playlist and selling out hundreds of venues throughout the land and beyond, including notably the Royal Albert Hall, Jon announced in 2015 that he wanted to move on. The rest of the band decided not to continue without him. Bellowhead played their final gig on May 1st 2016.

The Remnant Strings features Jon Boden (fiddle, guitars, concertina, stomp-box), Helen Bell (viola), Morven Bryce (violin) and Lucy Revis (cello). They bring the music of his 2017 album Afterglow, which explores stories from a post-oil world, interspersed with songs and tunes from across Jon’s eclectic interests and career.

FREE SINGING WORKSHOP DELIVERED BY JON BODEN

Over lockdown Jon came up with an experimental new approach for getting everyone singing in simple harmony. The aim of the system is singing-for-fun not for performance and it is suitable for all abilities.

Jon will be leading the workshop before his performance with the Remnant Strings in which he will introduce the system and get everyone singing. Songs covered will include several choruses that will feature in the performance. All materials provided.
