A Christmas Carol is one of the most famous ghost stories ever written. Given that it also incorporates time travel, redemption, humour, pathos and some of the best-known fictional characters in the world, little wonder it has remained perennially popular since its initial publication in 1843. The very first public recital of the story was performed by Dickens himself in Birmingham in December 1853.
Our production recreates that event with award-winning actor Jonathan Goodwin portraying Dickens in this one-man show. Distilling the essence of this most festive of tales, the audience will meet Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley, Bob Cratchit and the three ghostly visitants who call upon the miserly misanthrope one Christmas Eve night.
