STUDENTS from Tenbury High School have turned filmmakers as part of a bid to attract up to £700,000 investment into the town.

The young people were at the Regal Cinema to make a film about their hopes and aspirations for the town.

In particular, the team of four young filmmakers was preparing a movie about the history of the cinema and what it means to them.

The film is being used as part of a public consultation that will help to shape a Heritage Lottery Fund bid for up to £700,000.

It is the latest stage in a project that will have a big part to play in determining what Tenbury has to offer to people of all ages in the years to come.

The idea of the film came from Carl Franklin, a consultant who has been working for Tenbury Town Council on the Heritage Lottery bid, which will be submitted later this year.

“It is important to have an understanding of what young people want and it seemed a good idea to let them tell the story of the Regal and what it means to them by making a film,” said Mr Franklin.

The students are being helped with the technical side of movie-making but have been given a largely free hand to tell the story from the perspective of the younger generation in Tenbury.

“This is all part of the consultation process that began last autumn and is now coming to a close,” said Mr Franklin.

A final public meeting will be held in the Pump Rooms in Tenbury on Tuesday, January 19, starting at 6pm.

When the consultation finishes, Mr Franklin will prepare a detailed report for the town council and, if this is endorsed, it will form the basis of a Heritage Lottery bid that is expected to be for between £600,000 and £700,000 to develop the Regal and other community facilities.
