Filmgoers frozen out

Threat to films at Regal Cinema in Tenbury

FILMS will not be shown at The Regal in Tenbury unless a solution to the heating problem is determined in the near future.

A long-term solution to heating problems at the cinema has been put on the back burner but a short-term fix is being promised by the town council.

A kerosene-fired heating system at the cinema was recently condemned by health and safety officials, plunging the council, which runs the facility, into a crisis.

Shocked councillors discovered that the system, only installed last year following the floods of 2007, does not meet safety legislation.

Now with winter approaching, The Regal is left with no heating and the council is likely to have to make temporary arrangements while a permanent solution is thrashed out.

“I can say that The Regal will be provided with heating and no bookings will have to be cancelled,” said Tenbury’s Mayor Richard Jones.

But this does not satisfy volunteers who run the cinema, who are demanding a more concrete answer.
